CARTRIDGE BOX, BELT, CAP POUCH, AND BAYONET

The gear needed to support the operation of the rifle consisted of the cartridge box, the cap pouch, the bayonet, and the waist belt to hold it all. The leather cap pouch held the soldier’s precision caps.  The precision cap was a small brass cap which was needed to fire the rifle.  The leather cartridge box carried the ammunition (blackpowder charge with mini ball).  The bayonet is the long knife like metal object used to hook on end of rifle.  The leather scabbard is the holder for the bayonet.  The leather waist belt carries all of these items by the wearer.
